SAC is a kind of good performance asphalt concrete, which was developed by our country in 1988, and has got very good economic benefit in lots of engineering applications. In recent years, along with the development of economy, the pavement performance of unmodified SAC asphalt concrete can not satisfy the development of traffic and vehicle load. So the pavement performance of asphalt mixture needs to be improved urgently by any kind of advanced technology. Among these technologies, fiber reinforcing is paid more attention due to its inexpensive and good performance. A lot of researches have been done on fiber reinforced asphalt mixture, and also achieved many useful results, but the research on pavement performance of fiber reinforced SAC asphalt mixture, especially systemic research on long polymer fiber, is seldom performed.This paper researchs the pavement performance of SAC asphalt mixture reinforced by 19mm long of FORTA(?)AR and 6mm long TOPROADâ…¡ polymer fiber. First, it analyzes the research scheme of fiber reinforced SAC asphalt mixture based on previous studies; second, it designs the stone-to-stone contact structure SAC asphalt mixture using modified CAVF design method; Finally, it analyzes the pavement performance of fiber reinforced SAC asphalt mixture by a series of tests, and analyzes the mechanism of fiber reinforce by viscoelastic mechanics and composite mechanics.The research indicated that, both kinds of polymer fiber can improve the pavement performance of fiber reinforced SAC asphalt mixture effectively. When FORTA(?)AR dosage is 0.045% and its optimum asphalt content is 0.1% higher than the pure asphalt mixture, while TOPROADâ…¡ dosage is 0.227% and its optimum asphalt content is 0.3% higher than the pure asphalt mixture, the reinforcing effect ofthem is similar. Generally, the effect of the FORTA(?)AR is better than that of the TOPROAD â…¡, but the dispersibility of FORTA(?)AR in the asphalt mixture is lower; the TOPROAD â…¡ needs more asphalt and compact energy to ensure high density. Compared with the asphalt mixture without fiber, the material properties of the fiber reinforced asphalt mixture, including viscosity, modulus, toughness, creep strength and fatigue life, are improved.
