The water pump belongs to the multi-varieties and not volume-produce mechanical product, application is extremely widespread in engineering. At present, CAD usually is used to accomplish hydraulic design, the result is wood pattern chart of vane. In this foundation, the model is made usually by sand casting, manul relief-grind and technical method of the three-dimensional model examination, the quality of vane's surface is often worse. For the paddle pump, the hydraulic capability, the cavitation capability and the movement stability are affected by manufacturing technology and machining precision of vane's surface. The efficiency of pump will be enhanced if the smooth finish of flowing surface is enhanced.Along with the modern manufacturing technology developing fleetly, computer's applications already expand from CAD gradually to CAM as well as CAD/CAM integrated domain in the pumping industry in our nation. According to the pumping industry development tendency and the applications situation of CAD/CAM in present stage, the research direction of this article is established.Through carefully and thorough analysis about the hydraulic CAD of pump, the algorithm of point coordinates on boundary of vane is proposed. In view of structural design of centrifugal pumps' impeller and based on the SolidWorks as the supporting software of graphics, the related parameters can be determined and the characters can be divided, then the pivotal technology is solved in the three-dimensional entity modeling. The CAM function of MasterCAM is prominent, so MasterCAM is used to simulate the machining vanes process by numerical control. Under the Windows XP, the system with Windows graphical interface style about parametric modeling for pump's impeller and simulation of vane's machining is developed by the object-oriented programming(OOP) tools Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0, the method of characteristic modelling, the technology of parametric modeling, the database as well as the method of optimizing the parameters of the curved surface machining in MasterCAM.A sorts of practice indicate that, the result of previous hydraulic CAD design of pump is gained, the three-dimensional entitative model of centrifugal pump's impeller can be created automatically by computation and processing. In this foundation, the processing parameters can be set automatically and the processing simulation toolpath can be produced, then the process of vane numerical control machining can be simulated, the stencil of programme of vane numerical control machining is realized.
