The Tang Chang'an was the greatest city in history, which was destroyed in AD.907. Since then, the position of Xian not changed, Its urban construction of all the dynasties based on the site of Tang Chang'an. After the founding of New China , especially in the past 20-odd years China has speeded up urbanization, Hence Xian has been totally superimposed on the site of Tang Chang'an now. In 1996, the Tang Chang'an ruins has been listed as important cultural relic sites under state-level protection by the Central Government. However, the plan of Preservation of Tang Chang'an ruins not yet established as its huge size, Complexity of relic and urban environment.As urban accelerated development, The contradictions between urban development and the Preservation of ruins becoming increasingly acute, the Tang Chang'an ruins need to be protected immediately. On the other side, as the lack of research data and archaeological subsistence, we must step by step, programmatic approach to establishing the plan of preservation. Therefor, this thesis is stressed in the following aspects:1. Through scientific demonstration and on-site inspection, To make plain the structure and relic of Tang Chang'an ruins.2. The Establishment of an Identity system for the ruins. The identifier of Tang Chang'an ruins is the first step of the protection.
