| Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall is the biggest and most completed ancient defensive establishment remaining in our country. With Xi'an's accelerated urbanization, the life cycle of cultural heritage is reducing, and its survival environment is threatened. Promoting the city's modernization as well as protecting the cultural heritage, which seems contradictive, is a realistic problem that cannot be avoided in all the development of the cities that have historical cultural heritage. The region of the city wall, standing at the point of this contradiction, is representative. For the purpose of city culture's historical succession and sustainable development, we provide positive protection and effective utilization to make the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall remain perpetual. This paper selects the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall and its peripheral region as the object of study, intending to find the combination of the historical cultural heritage and the modern city life. Based on the reference of relevant international inheritance protection criterion and theory, the paper reviews the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall's historical development, and analyzes its cultural representation. From the heritage value theory's perspective, the paper summarizes four historical culture value of the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall. At the same time, it analyzes the historical transformation of the city wall's functional conversion. From the view of heritage reuse, it raises the factors that affecting the transformation and the insufficiency after the transformation. Then, on the basis of tidying up all the Xi'an's previous layouts, according to the role of the planned future city's central area (Ming Dynasty city wall section), the paper elaborates the significance and influence of the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall in Xian's future development from all the aspects of city modality, city ecology, municipal transportation and city travel, and points out that it has the survival adaptability. The article finally summarizes the key concept and principle of the Xi'an Ming Dynasty city wall's survival strategy, and, combining with the achievement of the Sino-Denmark union conceptive design, proposes one possible survival way. |
