An excitation controller, as a vital part of the synchronous generator, is very important to the safe operation of the generators and the stability of the power systems. Adjusting excitation is one of the most economic and effective control measures in improving the security, stability and quality of the power systems. With the development of the modern power systems, the capability of single generator is enlarged, at the same time, many advanced control theories are applied and many kinds of limited, protected functions are added to the excitation systems. So, the abilities of high-speed, reliability, robust are required to the excitation controllers. The excitation controller devices are innovated constantly with the development of control theories, power electronics technology, computer technology and the chip manufacture technology. The digitized technology is an effective measure to improve the excitation controller system to higher level. Accordingly, it becomes one of hot subjects to be researched in power systems.The dissertation studies on data acquisition system of an excitation controller based on an advanced digital signal processor. The controller is a main device of an excitation system. So, the performance of the data acquisition system is very important in the excitation systems. With the development of the modern power industry, more functions are proposed for excitation controllers to satisfy the requirement of generators. The paper focuses on the data acquisition system of an excitation controller which uses TI's DSP TMS320F2812 to design & develop a digital microcomputer-based system.The paper analyses the advantages of the plan which uses DSP TMS320F2812 as the platform to realize the data acquisition system. The main content of this text is composed by two important parts. At first, how to design hardware is described based on the components TMS320F2812 and ADS8364. This part presents the details of hardware including the total frame of system, the principle of electro circuit, and the parameters of the components and so on. The critical rules to design hardware is how to improve the speed and precise of the data acquisition system. A print circuit board is manufactured to realize the interface of AD conversion circuit with a DSP unit. Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) problems are discussed in this part. The second part is the software development. This thesis uses the Code Composer Studio (CCS) as a tool to research & develop the application software of the data acquisition system. Some method is proposed based on DSP.An opinion is introduced in this thesis that the data acquisition system based on DSP chip TMS320F2812 has fast computing rate and it has adequate internal resources to upgrade the hardware and software.
