Great progress on study for the management and optimization of water supply system had been made in China in recent years. However, comparing with developed countries, study on the management and optimal operation of breakdown state of unban water supply systems had fell behind. In order to reduce the affected range and degree of pipe burst, this paper takes water supply system of developing area in Harbin as example, using mathematical modeling and optimization theory, based on summarizing and analyzing domestic and overseas research findings, some technological problems, which involved in operation dispatching for water supply system in breakdown state, were studied deeply.Aiming to time changing characteristic and periodicity of unban water supply system, a way to confirm the limit of water supply was put foreward on the bases of pipeline topological relations and set theary; a method of plotting hydro isobaric line was proposed on the bases of mesh generation of MAPGIS and interpolation method in numerical analysis; a way to confirm pressure monitoring points of water supply system in breakdown state was got based on clustering analysis method in numerical analysis.By compareing two basic decoding algorithm of the Graph-Theoretical, the method called deep priority algorithm, which was used for searching scheme of valve shutoff in breakdown state, was confirmed. Then the model for searching scheme of valve shutoff when water supply system had one or several points of pipe burst was established based on MAPGIS. According to the analysis of water demand and Hydraulic Characteristics of pump in breakdown state, mathematical model of optimization operation for pumping stations, which was aiming at the least power spending during the breakdown time interval, was founded and simplified making use of hydraulic characteristics of pump.
