Discussion About The Setup Of A Management Information System Of Water Supply Pipe Network Based On GIS

Geographical information system (GIS) is a decisional support system speciallydesigned for spatial information application that connects system with decision-maker andprovides them with support function by information technology. It has became a practicalvisual-information managerial technology that has been applied in many fields, such asmunicipal management, telecommunications, electric power, public security, first-aid,commerce, transportation, military affairs, etc. A typical application of GIS is for the water-supply enterprises to establish "themanagement system of water supply pipe network." For those enterprises, themanagement of the pipe network is an important and difficult work, which needs themanagement system to improve the work efficiency. Before the alteration ofwater-supply network, cards were used to record the data by most enterprises that neithercan embody the current condition of pipe network, nor can meet the requirement ofgraphic disposal of the pipe network. Firstly, the general management condition of the water-supplyenterprises and the chance of setup system are introduced. Some methods ways ofprocessing data and some achievements on similar system are reviewed in this paper.Refer to informationlised management of enterprises and theories about development ofinformation system or project management, the information flow which the system relatesto is analyzed.
