The crankshaft is one of the most important components of engine, it endures complex and alternate load and it is the key point and difficulty of the engine design. The traditional design and analysis methods are so simply that they can not be satisfied with the actual demands. The Multi-body System Dynamics and the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) make precise analysis of crankshaft being true.Using virtual prototype technology and the method of Multi-body System Dynamics to research the dynamical performance of an engine crankshaft is discussed in this paper. Using CATIA and Multi-body System Dynamics software ADAMS and the Finite Element Analysis software ANSYS,The virtual prototype module of a diesel engine crankshaft parts (crankshaft mechanism) is created. The characters which can not affect the calculation precision are predigested. IGES is the intermedium format between the CAD and CAE software. ANSYS is chosen as the CAE software. Firstly we make modal analysis using Lanczos method and get the natural frequencies and vibration shapes. Based on this virtual prototype model,ADAMS software is used to do a kinematics and a dynamic simulation, then movement disciplinarian(displacement, velocity, acceleration, etc)about every component at any moment and any position is got. The force between components can be got at the same time. The dynamic loads acting on the crankshaft during work process of the engine are got too. A more accurate stress and deformation analysis can be done by using the FEA software. So the dynamic response during the whole work process of the crankshaft and the simulations for the transient behavior can be got. The dangerous parts of the crankshaft during the work process can be found. It may also offer reference for the crankshaft optimum design. A method without thinking of the friction resistance loads acting on the crank and kinematics and dynamics disciplinarian of the crankshaft mechanism is mainly discussed by using ADAMS software in this paper, then the accurate dynamic response analysis on crankshaft is done by using ANSYS software.
