When iron mine is smelted, a kind of lithic material with a certain intensity is produced when the melting residue cools in the air or when it is cooled in cold water.In the 1970's, many steel companies, such as Wuhan Steel Corporation, Baoshan Steel Corporation and the Capital Steel Corporation, studied the characteristics of their scoria and made the scoria into concrete and mortar aggregate. When the concrete and mortar were used in construction, they gained great economic benefit. The Panzhihua Steel (group) Corporation began to study and make use of the heavy mineral residue to some extent in the 1970's. When the vanadium-titanium-magnetite mine is melted in The Panzhihua Steel (group) Corporation, a kind of material which is called the high titanium and heavy mineral residue is also produced. Owing to lack of the basic information of the application of the high titanium and heavy mineral residue in concrete and construction mortar as well as the limited knowledge of it, the application of it as a valuable resource is affected to a great extent.This paper analyses the characteristic as well as the stability of the structure of the high titanium residue, describes the process of the systemic experiments and research to confect high quality concrete and mineral residue mortar using high titanium residue gravel and sandstone, and compares the lasting performance of the two products.The research of the characteristic of the high titanium and heavy mineral residue and the performance of the confection of concrete indicates:â‘ 95% of the high titanium and heavy mineral residue is made up of CaO, SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3 and MgO. Therefore its chemical performance is stable. The X-ray diffraction and lithofacies analysis find that the mineral composition of the high titanium and heavy mineral residue aggregate is made up of calcium- titanium mine, rich titanium pyroxene and titanium pyroxene. Injurants such as C2S, f-CaO, FeS, FeS2, MnS are not found.â‘¡A series of experiments indicate that the decomposition reactions of silicate, lime, iron and manganese will not happen to the high titanium and heavy mineral residueTthe high titanium and heavy mineral residue of the Panzhihua Steel & Iron (group) Corporation meets the requirement of products grade A according to"The limit of Building Material Nuclide". So it can be used without any restriction.â‘¢The index of the high titanium and heavy mineral residue grave accords with related qualifications and can be used as coarse aggregate to make concrete for civilian construction, because it has the following...
