Vertical Integration Between Ground And Underground Urban Public Space

With the fast development in economics, the underground urban public space is also developing rapidly. So to improve the vertical connection relationship between urban public ground and underground space is becoming a more and more import factor affecting the underground space development. This thesis has discussed the integration of vertical connection and transition relationship between ground and underground in urban public space by starting with the entrance node of underground public space.The fundamental concepts of entrance node of underground public space are firstly defined in this thesis, and the problems existing in the nodes in current urban design are pointed out based on effective surveys. The vertical connection relationship between the entrance nodes of underground public space and the ground public space is discussed, and systematical researches of various utilization functions and transition functions, and form ingredients of these nodes are conducted. In all of the functions, the utilization functions include pass and stay, symbol and direction, environment and sight, social culture, safety protection; the transition functions includes transition in space, physics, and psychology, while form ingredients includes solid construction inscape, natural inscape, and municipal and cultural inscape. And then, the special cognizance of underground public space entrance nodes and its behavior characteristics of people are analyzed from the viewpoint of environmental behavioristics. Finally, based on all of the researches and analysis, the thesis puts forward the design principles and detailed design methods for designing the entrance nodes of underground public space.The emphases of this thesis are, based on global urban space system, having put forward the design principles of forms of entrance node of underground public space including improving the vertical integration connection between ground and underground spaces, enhancing the vertical transportation efficiency, expanding the space interaction of ground and underground function spaces, and keeping continuous environmental characteristics along with the ground; and emphasizing the creativity, during design, in outer shape percept of entrance nodes, natural vertical transition, transportation convenience, multi-dimensions space, safe space scale and so on.
