With the increasing number of people shopping in the domestic underground business town, the function and size of the underground business town has changed dramatically, the traditional underground street, which has been designed as a supplement for business upground could not meet the requirements of users anymore. in reality, the phenomenon that the consumers require for a better quality of the underground town reveal the defects in the design of the underground town. Therefore, to survey the using situation of the underground town, which include the lack of"the place spirit", the unacceptance by the consumers and the direction lost phenomenon in the underground town, are indeed deeply worthy being reseached.Based on the the theory of spatial cognitive behavior model, the paper collected the relevant data through behavioral observation and questionnaire survey, and used the inducing structure theory as manipulation tools, expected to find the main factors effect the consumers to recognize the underground town space. Then the paper made some suggestions about the combination of the underground business town, which included trying to place the spirit of the city into an underground business town, proposing the design philosophy of"the integration between up and under ground, combining with the five urban public space elements-- " path, region, edge, node, landmark, "---to integrate the public space of the underground business town. The author hoped that by changing the design strategies to enhance the quality of underground commercial space and to help the user to cognize the space.According with the technical route of "discover the problem– analysis the problem - solve the problem" ,the paper included three parts, which are"the underground town related concepts and the problems in public space","the theory of spatial cognition and the field research of the underground street","the design strategies about integrating public space in underground business town".In the first part,"the underground town related concepts and the problems in public space",the study mainly includes two aspects.Firstly, by analyzing the context of the development of underground street, the paper summed up the spatial characteristics of different types; secondly, with the success case of foreign underground town development, analysis the trend of underground space.In the second part,"the theory of spatial cognition and the field research of the underground street",the study mainly includes two aspects: Firstly, the author analysis of spatial cognitive behavior model in theoretical level, and collect the spatial cognition problems in that may exist on underground street space in a theoretical derivation. Secondly, through the field research, the author found the phenomenon, combined with the previous theoretical analysis, summed up several factors effecting the perception of underground space .In the third part,"the design strategies about integrating public space in underground business town". Combining the effective factors, the author tried to bring"the unban place spirit"into the public space of the underground business town, proposed concrete improving measures to the different elements in the public space of underground town.
