Work Breakdown Structures Of Construction Project And Its Applications In Engineering

With the development of project management, engineering cost management enters into a new research field and work Breakdown Structures (WBS)has been introduced into construction project management. In many large scale international engineering, it is required that project managers use WBS to manage the project. But for domestic engineering technicians , as there are few internal engineering using WBS to manage the project and many technical personnel don't understand the basic concept of WBS and many enterprises have no practice to work out the WBS. Author of this text is just for current situation to research this task about establishing WBS and its application in construction project.This article introduces the concept of WBS and developing process and establishes the WBS of a building's engineering according to common practice, rules of building project. Afterwards during foundation construction of certain project, we utilize the WBS and WBS dictionary gained to manage the project management and cost management of this project. The results show that WBS plotted the whole project into many small units which are easy to manage so that project manager is more convenient to estimate the project cost and schedule more accurately. It makes the project manager spanned the professional limit to strengthen the relations of technology, materials, equipments and finance field personnel and strong the project management effectively especially after forming WBS dictionary. WBS plays scientific and effective function in project management. WBS of building of this article provides a platform for researching and application of WBS in the future. Engineering technicians can regard this structure as a model and increase the working efficiency by completing the new WBS through increasing or decreasing new working package.
