A low noise high efficiency backlight/CAM LED controller XD8009 is designed on the basis of the project"Theoretical Research and Design of Key Technique for Deep-submicron Power Management IC and Mixed IC".Firstly, a brief introduction of the lighting industry followed by a compendious description of the luminescent theory and the drive of white LED is given. Then a system construction of XD8009 is accomplished with respect to the popular control method and operation mode of white LED driver. Before the detailed description of the sub-block design, the key technologies of multimode operational charge pump and a control method of low noise designed this paper are presented. Finally, parts of the whole chip performance characteristics and electrical characteristics are given.XD8009 can drive 4 backlight LEDs and a CAM LED at the same time with total output current high to 500mA. The backlight LED has a 64:1 brightness control range with 8 brightness steps.The design of XD8009 is based on the CSMC 0.6μm CMOS process. The simulation results show that the performance in application is excellent and can meet the prospective specifications.
