With the trends for higher speed and lower weight of automobile design and the increasing number of vehicles, how to improve the passive safety has become an important task for auto makers. The research method of crash performance has always been the combination of tests and computer simulatons.According to some commercial vehicle frontal crash test, the whole vehicle CAE model is built which is composed of shell, beam and solid parts. The CAE model is simulated, with the software of LS-DYNA. Comparing to test data, the model is proved feasible. Key factors for simulation are pointed out, and some results have been obtained. The main research works are focused in the following aspects:1. Whole CAE model is performanced. The whole CAE model is built, and frontal crash is simulated, which is composed of more than 240 thousands elements. Comparing to experimental data, the model is proved feasible.2. Combine test and computer simulation, vehicle weakness of crashworthiness are pointed out.3. Analysis of factors for CAE modelling. The CAE model is performanced, and key points for simulation precision are point out, including grid density, time step, and friction, sandglass control.4. Analysis of optimization for thin-beam energy absorbtion in frontal crash. The main energy absorbtion part, thin-beam wall, is analyzed.The conclusion of this paper is referenced to other vehicle crash simulation. It's also good for vehicle body design.
