Generator Control Unit (GCU) is an important part of advanced aircraft power distribution system. It controls the excitation current of the generator to make the output-voltage to be steady according to the status of Generator and GCU.It is proposed that GCU must be Fault-toleran, Reliable and Real-time as part of power supply system. DSP controller - TMS320LF2407A is adopted as the core processor. And software development is based on the embedded Real-Time multi-task Operation System μC/OS-II. GCU is dividede into six modules, including power supply, DSP minor system, generator booster, analog collection, digital adjustment and CAN bus communication etc. Project analysis, schematic design, PCB design and the last test of handware of every modules are introduced in detail. Problem such as switch real-time monitor, detection of the generator and GCU status and data communication is resolved.Software has been programmed mixed with C and DSP assemble. After porting μC/OS-II to TMS320LF2407A, A system design including developing hardware drivers, assigning task priorities and task modules and intertask communication are presented in detail.. Programming is more easy and the software system has a more clearly layout and a better expandable ability because of the introduction of μC/OS-II. Built-in Test (BIT) ranged from hardware to software have been designed simultaneously. Finally, there is a specific evalution on the developed GCU and a test for system. The evaluating and experimental result indicates that the GCU on basis of DSP controller and RTOS is highly reliable,fault-tolerant, real-time and electromagnetic compatible and can control the generator automatically.
