The excitation controller, as a main part of excitation system in the synchronic generator, affects operating excitation characteristics of generator directly and is very important to safe and steady operation of power systems. Excellent excitation system not only could guarantee the generator safely and steady operation, but also improve economic and technical norms of generator and power systems effectively. According to the developing direction of excitation controller both home and abroad, this paper researches and develops DSP excitation controller of synchronic generator which has the self-diagnosis function by TMS320F2812 as the control center.Firstly, the paper introduces the state and trend of excitation controller in the synchronic generator , analyses characteristic and the problems existing in it. Secondly this paper introduces the feature of TMS320F2812 and presents system frame. And then this paper describes the design methods of the hardware and software used in the excitation controller based on TMS320F2812, presents the schematic diagram of hardware and the flowchart of the software. The fast analog signal sampling, switching signal process, keyboard, display, frequency measurement, digital shift phase trigger pulse and control rule and etc are realized in one chip taking advantage of the characters of TMS320F2812, such as high performance processing capabilities, plenty of peripherals on chip and high real time control and so on. Adoption many anti-jamming measures on hardware and software is improve the excitation controller properties further. The test result indicates that is feasible. The system adopts self-diagnosis technique. This function makes system discover malfunctions in time, and system will deal with them base on corresponding measures. Because of self-diagnosis function, system working in improper probability is decrease and it improves stability of system.The test result indicates that: the excitation controller with self-diagnosis based on TMS320F2812, the properties of which reach or precede state criterion, has the characters of simple hardware structure, high reliability, easy maintains, high ratio between performance and price and etc., the DSP excitation controller can be widely used in the small or middle size power plant and has a bright application value in the future.
