Excitation controller, as a main part of excitation system in the synchronic generator, affects the safe and steady operation of generators and power systems. With its enlargement of scale, as the structure and run mode of it are increasingly complexing, the power system requires that the excitation system has better operation performance, higher reliability, better economical efficiency and flexibleness. According to the developing direction of excitation controller both here and abroad, this paper researches and develops DSP excitation controller of synchronic generator by TMS320F2812 as the control center.Firstly, the paper introduces the state and trend of excitation controller in the synchronic generator and analyses the problems existing in it. Secondly, this paper also presents the history, feature and application range of DSP chip and chooses TMS320F2812 as the control center of excitation controller by means of comparing the performance between TMS320F2812 and the other control chips. And then this paper describes the design methods of the hardware and software used in the excitation controller based on TMS320F2812, presents the schematic diagram of hardware and the flowchart of the software, and with them, the fast AC sampling, frequency measurement, digital shift phase trigger pulse and control rule and etc, are realized in one chip taking advantage of the characters of TMS320F2812, such as high performance processing capabilities, plenty of peripherals on chip and high real time control and so on. Adoption of TMS320F2812 makes the excitation controller has simpler structure, stronger anti-jamming capability and higher stability.The test result indicates that: the excitation controller based on TMS320F2812, the properties of which reach or precede state criterion, has the characters of simple hardware structure, high reliability, easy maintains, high ratio between performance and price and etc. The excitation controller based on TMS320F2812 has a bright application value in the future.
