The concrete facing rockfill dam (CFRD) is attached importance to by foreign and domestic dam architecture domain generally for its security , economy and adaptivity. At present, there are quite a number of CFRDs under construction or preparation for construction in southwest and northwest meizoseismal area, so the importance and urgency of CFRD earthquake-resistance research are more and more outstanding. Two- dimensional analysis of CFRD seismic response already has many calculative methods and corresponding program, but it is insufficient to do two-dimensional analysis only because most CFRDs are built in gorge , the three-dimensional effect is evident. Therefore, it is necessary for CFRD to do three-dimensional dynamic analysis of seismic response. Along with rapid development of calculate technology and computer, three-dimensional analysis is possible so that foreign and domestic scholar take three-dimensional dynamic analysis of CFRD seriously.In this paper, the research history and present condition of development of CFRD are introduced and the problems and deficiencies of present methods are pointed out. Several kinds of static and dynamic constitutive model which are adopted widely currently are introduced as well. There are two kinds of dynamic analysis method of CFRD at present, one is the equivalent linear analysis method base on equivalent viscoelastic model, the other is authentic nonlinear analysis method base on viscoelastic plasticity model. The equivalent linear model has definite conception and convenient application and abundant test data and engineering experience are accumulated in parameter confirm and application so that it is used widely. It is difficult for authentic nonlinear analysis method to be generalized because of enormous calculate work in despite of its rigorous theoretic base.Rockfill is simulated by block element and contact element is set to imitate the interaction between slab and rockfill on the ground of the equivalent linearization model. A program system is developed on 3D dynamic FEM of CFRD.
