Reactive power is an important factor that influences the voltage stabilization. It is relating to the safety of the whole electric power system. Transformer substations are the main places to carry out the reactive power decentralized control and reactive compensatory. Therefore, it is important to research the volt/var combination control.This paper expatiates the technique actuality of the reactive compensatory at first. Then, by the equation Q = 2Ï€fCU~2, the new technique has been advanced. Its basic principle is to adjust the reactive power through changing the capacitor terminal voltage. Basis of the technique requirement and the function of volt/var combination control, the new control device had been advanced in this paper. This new device contains the IPC industrial control computer hardware platform and Windows operate system. The device had been installed in a 110kV transform substation of Wuhai. The field test results express that this new device can accommodates the reactive power from the capacitor real-time and dynamic, and improves the power quality.
