Due to the formidable environment, the features of transient and large distortion, it is difficult to observe the launching progress of cartridge cases. So, In the designing of modern cartridge cases, the CAE technology is needed to do some quantitative analyze and calculate. The launching intensity of cartridge is a complex nonlinear problem that cartridge contact with tube. At present, there're many merchant software that can be used to solve the problem. However, because of the complexity of using, it is difficult to apply to the design of cartridge cases. So, cartridge CAE software should be developed.In the paper, the key step of cartridge CAE technology is researched, and many merchant solvers are compared, the analysis confirmed that it is feasible to solve the launching problem of cartridge using LS-DYNA. The mechanics of cartridge is researched, and the influencing factor of cartridge performance is studied. At this foundation, the general design theory, whole frame and function module of cartridge CAE software are built. The theory model of the software is built. The border driver and mesh optimization methods, the auto generate algorithm of tetragonal area, the auto generate algorithm of border element section are studied. The relationship between solve time and time step is concluded from calculation. Based on the thinking of module software design, an auto mesh generator is developed, and the high quality mesh can be spanned using it. The software that can be used to generate tetragonal area is programmed. The software that is used to the auto generate algorithm of border element section is developed, the elements which beard load, constrain, and contact in the FEM model can be identified automatically, and the LS-DYNA KEY file can be created automatically. According to the theory of mass scaling, the time step can be adjusted automatically. The cartridge CAE manage software is developed, and each module can be invoked by it.A simulation for a cartridge case is done using the cartridge CAE software developed by author. The result is very consistence with the test result. The whole progress which includes the building of CAD model, the solve time of FEM, expends about 3.25 hours. It can be concluded from the progress that the software has high efficiency and high value in engineering.
