Overhead Traveling Crane is a kind of product with stable structures. It has many serialization parts, universal parts and similar parts. According to present status and needs of enterprises nowadays, the metal structure of Overhead Traveling Crane is designed with the method of three-dimensional CAD. This method can avoid iterative design and improve design efficiency. Nowadays, the designing software transfers from two-dimension to three-dimension. Redevelop the software of SolidWorks can create a condition of integration of CAD, PDM, CAPP, CAM and ERP. It can also implement design idea to segments followings and create premises to develop new products. The technique of three-dimension CAD designing of metal structure is studied in this paper. Specific contents are as follows:(1) Expound development condition in and out of state of Overhead Traveling Crane and the development state and tendency of CAD technique. Then lead to the problems in CAD system designing. Introduce meaning and target of topic and content arrangement of this paper.(2) Plan the overall designing method of this system. Designing target is set up and development tool is selected according to the structure of Overhead Traveling Crane. And then decide gross structure and operation course of this system.(3) In the base of technique of object-oriented, parametric, Modularization and data management, the designing procedure of this system, the establishment and management technique of data base and data file is researched.(4) Against the problems of confused layout, vicarious annotation and irrational ratio of drawings after driving, the automatic adjustment technique is brought as an emphasis. And the final drawing after adjusting can be closed to the initial drawing in maximum limit. It's a difficult point and innovation point in this paper.Practice indicates that the efficiency and accuracy is advanced. Good economic returns are yield for enterprises. and the three-dimension design process is accelerated.
