Expanded polystyrene( EPS ) insulation mortar is one kind of performance outstanding thermal insulation material. Because of it has many advantages such as excellent thermal technical property, high durability, convenient construction and competitive performance/cost ratio, it was widely used in architectural engineering. But, along with our country's building energy efficiency work advancement and the relevance standard is published, the original EPS insulation mortar certain performance do not satisfy the standard's request. In order to have high performance EPS insulation mortar product, we need to promote its performance.In this study, we take improving EPS insulation mortar's workability and construction and strengthening its crack-resisting and weather-resisting as a key point, we have obtained high performance EPS insulation mortar. In this foundation, EPS insulation mortar wall insulating constructional systems (ETIRS) has been established, at the same time, construction technology and Technical regulations has also been established. At last, conducting the project applied research this system, we obtain the good effect.First, the influences of various components on the properties of EPS insulation mortar were investigated to select the appropriate kind and optimal dosage of the main components. Selecting original expanded polystyrene as the fine aggregate, by full use of the characteristics of EPS such as high thermal insulation resistance, good alkali resistance, excellent chemical stability, hydrophobic and close pore structure, and relatively high toughness, to prepare insulation mortar to improve its thermal technical properties and water-resisting. Surface modification of EPS granule by use of high-molecular binder, changing its surface from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, the technical difficult problem are solved successfully including difficult wetting of inorganic boding materials on EPS surface, weak workability of the fresh mixtures, and low bonding strength. Using water-holding agents and calcium hydroxide powder to improve EPS insulation mortar's construction. In order to improve its toughness and crack-resisting, some effective measures such as fibre reinforcement and compensating shrinkage with expansion agent were employed. By addition of waterproof agent, the water resistance, moisture proof, weather resistance and water resistant bonding strength of EPS insulation mortar is effectively strengthened. At last, determined each kind of component's amount used scope is as follows: cement 175 kg/m3, EPS granule 880L(EPS2 and EPS3 mixed according to volume ratio 1:1), high-molecular binder A 5.0~6.0 kg/m3, water-holding agents H 1.5~1.7kg/m3, 8mm PP fibre 0.7~1.0 kg/m3, waterproof agent S 0.6kg/m3, expansion agent and calcium hydroxide powder (substitution cement content)15~20kg/m3,17.5~35 kg/m3。Second, in this study, according the different requires of exterior wall decorative materials, combining with EPS insulation mortar's eminence properties used on external thermal insulation ,two different EPS insulation mortar wall insulating constructional systems (ETIRS) have been established. Furthermore, their corresponding construction technology and Technical regulations have been also established, ensuring its standard construction and integrated properties.This ETIRS was successfully applied to Chongqing Zidu City of Longhu, Guanshanshui of Longhu, Xichenglijing of Huayu and so on. And the result showed that this ETIRS has good thermal technical properties, good system stability, high cementation intensity, advantageous Weather-resisting and so on. Its performance/cost ratio has obvious advantage which gives it high competition capacity; it can be widely applied in external thermal insulating rending system.
