With the amount of automobile increasing, the traffic accident has become a serious problem in the world. The statistic data of traffic accident in the last years indicated that the traffic accidents caused by side impact were higher than front impact, the death rate caused by side impact was only inferior to front impact, but the harmful rate caused by side impact was the highest in all of the impact accidents. The lateral of the vehicle is always very weak, and the cushion area is small, so the absorbing ability is poor and the risk of damage is high. Therefore the safety study about vehicle side impact is very important to improve the integer safety ability of the car in our country.The article expatiate the basic theory on the computer simulation of vehicle impact firstly, then research on the side impact simulation about a chosen car. This article emphasis on the basic research of vehicle side impact simulation , discussing the influence of the mesh size and element type and the number of integrate on the accuracy and efficiency, and acquire some conclusion :①considering from efficiency and accuracy, the size of car body is chosen to be 12*12mm, and the basic element type is BT, but from the aspect of element stiffness, the BWC arithmetic of element can satisfy the demand of side impact simulation.②choose different integrate points in different areas of vehicle body ,as for the large deformation areas, choose more integrate points ,as for the parts far away from crash area, choose less points。To different areas, the integrate points increase with the badness of deformation.③The hourglass mode can be well controlled by stiffness hourglass control in the process of side impact simulation.④The influence of weld failure on the absorbing performance of parts is large , weld failure is considered in the article. The above study ensures the correctness of vehicle side impact simulation.According to the demand of the code about the movable deformable barrier and the methods to check the experiments, this article modifies some correlative parameters of deformation and absorbing performances, and then validates its correctness. Modify some parameters of Euro-SID II to make sure the main standardization of the dummy is correct, and provide a basal model for simulating vehicle side impact.Synthesizing the molding method of various crash types, establishing a finite element model of the full vehicle fit for side impact, front impact and rear impact, then actualizes the side impact virtual test. The results of virtual test are particular analyzed, and then some impersonal evaluation is also given., successfully realize the simulation of vehicle side impact.
