In recent years,with the increase of car ownership in China,frequent road traffic accidents also pose a serious threat to our personal safety,and also cause huge human and economic losses to the national society.Frontal impact accident is the highest incidence of traffic accidents of all accident forms,it includes 100% frontal impact,40% offset impact,25% small overlap rate impact,the latter two are the highest and will cause more serious damage to occupants.To this problem many countries have also developed related regulations.However,the dummy these countries used in the regulations is the Hybrid III 50 percentile dummy which is based on American anthropometry,and it is quite different from the Chinese human dimension.To explore the risk of injury based on Chinese human occupants in frontal impact,the Chinese 50 percentile dummny based on Chinese characteristics of human body size was developed by scaling the Hybrid III 50 percentile dummy finite element model in my research group.In this paper,the dynamic response and damage of the Hybrid III 50 percentile dummy and the Chinese 50 percentile dummy are analyzed in different overlap rate of frontal impact condition and calibration test conditions.Furthermore,the effect trends are analyzed of the airbag fire time,gas mass flow rate and vent diameter parameters on these two dummies injury response.According to the research,the distance between the Chinese 50 percentile male dummy parts and the vehicle interior are less than those of the Hybrid III 50 percentile dummy when this two dummies are in the normal seating position.The head and neck injuries and chest compressions of Chinese dummy were less than that of Hybrid III dummy in all overlap rate frontal impact,but the risk of chest viscosity criterion and right lower limb injury were greater than that of Hybrid III dummy;According to comprehensive analysis these two dummies' s kinematic response in both 40% and 25% overlap rate impact,the hard contact between Hybrid III dummy head,neck and chest with the steering wheel is more intense,Chinese dummy are more likely to slip and turn over along the left side of the airbag so that the head has greater risk of hard contact with the left side door and A-pillar.Airbag parameters which are designed optimally based on Hybrid III 50 th dummy may not provide best protection for Chinese 50th-percentile male dummy,even the optimization of some airbag parameters for better protection for these two dummies may be opposite.Appropriate change of the airbag fire time,airbag gas mass flow rate and vent diameter can reduce head,chest injury and WIC value of Chinese dummy,especially the maximum of head injury can be reduced by 35.49%,WIC values can be reduced by 20.05%,and each part of the Hybrid III dummy injury showed a trend of opposite;Calibration simulation results shows that the most injuries of Chinese dummy in is greater than the Hybrid III dummy except the neck bending moment and chest compression injury,especialy the neck D plane rotation angle and chest impact force are beyond the limited value of calibration regulations.Based on the results of the comprehensive study,there are significant differences between the Hybrid III 50 percentile dummy and the Chinese 50 percentile dummy in frontal impact and calibration simulation.Therefore,it is necessary to develop a Chinese dummy based on Chinese human dimension.
