Suspension is one of the important assemblies in modern vehicle. The main function of a suspension is to transfer forces and torques and to regulate the relative motion between the body and the wheels, at the same time to abate the impact to vehicle and to damp the vibrations from the road, so that the vehicle could run smoothly. The suspension system has directly effects on vehicle performance, especially handling stability, the ride comfort, the turning ability,and the life cycle of the tires etc. The double-wishbone suspension, which was widely used in vehicle now, is one kind of the independent suspensions.In this thesis, firstly, the design methods of main components of double-wishbone suspension were analyzed, such as the design of shock absorber, the design calculation of torsion bar springs, the design of transverse stabilizer, as well as the` movement of double-wishbone suspension and the related calculation methods were presented.Taking Hover's front suspension as a example, three kinds of front suspension were suggested based on the different spring parameters of front suspension. Based on all kinds of data for the three suspensions and steering system, the suspension system models combined with steering subsystem were set by ADMAS/Car software. By means of this model, the kinetics,kinematics simulation was done and variation curve of the front suspension parameter during movement was gotten from the simulation. Based on previous experiences and simulation results, the performance of different front suspension were gotten about the handling stability. Then a experiment was designed to verify the simulation result of the model with wheel alignment. Validation of the simulation model was verified.At last, the road harshness test was done with three different front suspensions. Combined the result of the harshness test with previous simulation analysis,the front suspension parameters of the vehicle were determined.This thesis is the combination of production,experiment and research. Analyzing and estimating problems with theory and practice and to instruct the production. In this thesis, a design method was proposed for front suspension design, which can determine the optimum parameters of the front suspension by means of software simulation and road test.The proposed virtual prototype model of front suspension has the important significance in designing and developing the new suspension, as well as performance appraising. And it makes the design development, the problem-solving for performance, production test more objectively.
