The ancient temples in Beijing are one of the most valuable historical and cultural heritage . There are large numbers of temples in Shichahai noticeable because of some peculiar feature. How to conserve and develop them for our contemporary city development is absolutely necessary work. The temples in ancient city were not only the place for sacrifice, but for commerce, where people could purchase all they needed in daily life. Temples perform an important function in economy development, culture spreading and social communication. At the same time, because Chinese traditional sacrifice culture came from people's life need and has some secular feature, a series of folk-custom actives happened all around of the temples, which are valuable not only to enrich the spiritual life of citizen, but also to show the humanistic city. With the development of economy, the progress of the times, and the change of the social life style, temples and the folk-custom actives are no longer the mainstream for the contemporary people life. But as the cultural heritage, they are of the vital meaning in improving city's historical value, enriching citizen cultural life and flourishing the touring business.The first part of this dissertation expatiates the conception of the temple, summarizes the sacrifice culture's object, character and growing trend, and analyzes the commercial activity happened all around of the temples. The comparison of some typical cases again expatiates practically that how temples affected the ancient city and how to reuse them in contemporary city, . We should think more about the relationship between temples and city, not only regard them as sacrifice place. We could open them as public place having more cultural details for visiting and relaxation. The second part of this dissertation gives concrete research of the temples in Shichahai. After summarising their whole character, evolution, folk-customs and typical cases, this part lists the information of 15 temples about their history and status quo. Based on the foregoing theory research and case study in the first part, the dissertation gives some advices on how to conserve and develope the temples in Shichahai at the same time the temples Beijing old city.
