| Zhang Fei Temple is located at the Yun-yang country of Chong-qing City. It is a group of magnificent building of Qing Dynasty constructed in memory of General Zhang Fei of Three kingdoms Period. It was built using traditional techniques and with decorations that only existed in ancient southwestern China. In 1980, Zhang Fei Temple was listed as Important Protected Monument of Chong-qing City, and in 2001, was listed as a National Important Protected Monument by the Chinese State Council. It is a representative building of the ancestral temples in China.In 1994, the world's largest hydraulic power project, the Three Gorges Project (TGP), was commenced. With the beginning of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest rescue project of cultural relics also commenced simultaneously. Many historic relics along the Yantze River will be submerged when the TGP is completed. Among them, Zhang Fei Temple is the biggest historical building complex to be relocated. It is also well-known as the second largest project for the relocation of an ancient building complex after the relocation of Yong-Le Temple in 1959.According to the plan of relocation, the temple will be moved upriver with the Yun-yang town and will be kept intact without any changes. From October28, 2002 to June 19, 2003, the conservation project of Zhang Fei Temple has been moved to the new site and restored successfully in the end. This research is a case study on Zhang Fei Temple and its relocation project, the research contexts includes two parts. The first is the study on Zhang Fei Temple. In this part, based upon a wide collection and studies of first-hand materials about Zhang Fei Temple, the author would like to shard the achievements from four aspects, among which include its history, it layout, its technologies and its values. The second is the main part of this research. Based upon the comparisons, combinations analysis and conclusions of various issues in the relocation project, with regard to the relevant laws and operability in the practice, the research expatiates on each issue in the way of cause and effect, and try to discover the potential problems in the present system of Chinese Conservation. In the end, the author shares some thoughts about the problems reflected in this relocation project. |
