In the paper the time marching method is used to solve the control equations and a computational analysis of the flow field in a unshrouded impeller is presented. Emphasis is focused on the effect of length and distribution of the splitter blades and the tip leakage on the flow field of the impeller. Through the experiment of numerical simulation we discovered:(1) When the length of splitter blades increased, it can reduce the loss made by the separated boundary layer and the tip leakage flow , but it will crease the loss of friction between the flow and the splitter blades.(2) Moving the splitter blades from the suction side of blade to the pressing side of blade will not only reduce the average pressure grades around case surface but also the tip leakage flow, So the performance of the impeller rise.(3)Increasing the tip leakage can reduce the effect of the splitter blades on the flow at the inlet of impeller, but it will increase the tip leakage flow and this will make the performance of impeller poorer.(4)In order to increase the performance of the impeller ,We used the simplex method to optimize the length and the position of the splitter blades.
