In this paper, a new control system based on Windows OS for magnetic bearing is designed. After analyzing Windows OS's operating principles and the demand of magnetic bearing, we put forward problems of Windows-based real-time control system, and VxD(Virtual Device Driver) technology dealing with Hardware-Interrupt is applied, so that the key points such as real-time and device-dependence of Windows OS are resolved absolutely. Furthermore, sampling, PCI interface, real-time processing and output are mainly resolved. Then we implement a strategy of displaying displacement signal and changing parameters online since many advantages of Windows OS are available, and as a result, a friendly consumer interface is provided for users. Finally, the five-degree freedom magnetic rotor can be suspended stably and rotates at the speed of 26400r/min by adopting the PID control algorithm.Furthermore, self-searching PID control algorithm is developed to improve the original algorithm.This paper offers a shorter debugging period and a higher efficiency since we provide a convenient debugging interface. Also the control system based on Windows OS would be much more convenient for developing advanced control algorithms, intelligent controls and communication with other control systems. These provide a reference to the design of general industrial control system software.
