Reverse engineering (RE) is one of the key technologies for absorbing and digesting advanced technology and shortening the exploit period of product in the field of engineering technique. As an important part, tire has a decisive influence on automobile's security and stability. The pattern of the tire is the most important structure factor, but the design of the tire pattern is very difficult because of the complicated acting mechanism between the tire and the road. So far there are still many obscure problems to be solved, and the design of the tire pattern is still lack of the effective theoretical guidance .Aiming at this design difficulty at present, this thesis presented a new method based on RE technique to design the tire pattern, and it is expected to enhance the design level of our country.The pattern shape of tire is very complicated on account of the lesser dimension of the tire pattern than that of the tire and distributing on the two rotation curve surface. According to these structure characteristics, the dissertation first researches the measured technique of the tire pattern base on RE, compares and analyses the measured results by several different measure methods, including the contact and non-contact type and the filling measure approach, and presents an effective measuring method of the tire pattern.Second, the methods of the data processing and the digitization design were studied, and the platform of the digitization design based on commercial software was established. Through analyzing the characteristic of the tread surface shape, RE software Surfacer was employed to carry on the pretreatment of the data that were measured from the tire where block structure was distributed regularly, then the digitization design of the tire tread was completed by Pro/E software. Taking account of the non-regular tire pattern with non-block structure, the RE design platform Geomagic Studio(?) was used to reduce noise, filter and sample the point clouds of the measured data, then directly fit the NURBS surface and finally obtain the digitized model of tire tread structure. Because the measuring of some tiny characteristic of the tire tread such as scoop channel and the gap is very difficult and inefficient, the images of the tire were processed by using MATLAB software and the image design system of the tire tread structure based on RE was developed after analyzing the reconstruction principle and algorithm of three dimensional shape of the object based on the brightness and darkness of a single image.The research indicates that the application of the object RE technology to the digitization design of the tire tread structure is feasible and effective and the image RE technology is a beneficial supplement to the object RE. RE technique is of significance to enhance the design level of tire pattern in our country.
