In recent years, the electrical load demand in automobiles has been increasing steadily due to the usage of more electrical devices. The current 14V Lundell alternator is not able to supply more efficiency and more output power to meet the future growing power demand. A 42V induction-generator-based automotive power generation with more efficient and high output power is proposed in this paper. The system uses a pulse-width- modulation (PWM) boost rectifier directly connected to the induction generator, and control design scheme based on rotor field-oriented control. The induction generator is modeled according to the generating direction, and the PWM rectifier is modeled based on switch-function concept. The resulting controllers for induction generator system are designed systematically. In order to get the stabilized output voltage, the AC and DC voltage control strategies are proposed. The stator reactive current is regulated to keep AC voltage of the generator to be constant during varying speed. To suppress effectively the dynamic voltage, the stator active current is controlled by using the load matching technique during load-dump and jump charging. The dSPACE real-time simulation results verify the proposed system models and control strategies.
