With the construction of the East Route Project of South-to-North Water Diversion, a number of large and medium-sized pumping stations will be put into long-term operation. Because of the extremely high requirements for economy, security and reliability on inter-basin water diversion, the demand on the comprehensive automation of pumping sets becomes more and more urgent. Those large pumping stations built in 1960s and 1970s, due to the limitation of the time in design, manufacturing technology and economic conditions, the automation level in pumping station operating, monitoring and controlling was comparatively low. In contrast, the large pumping stations built after 1980s, great progress has been made in automatic control, and advanced computerized monitoring automation mode adopted in some pumping stations. Even scholars and researches at home and abroad has done a great number of researches in pumping station automation and some achievements have been made, there remains many problems in pumping station automatic monitoring, especially in the application of comprehensive automation for large pumping stations, which is not yet up to the operation requirements of"unmanned on duty"or"few-manned on duty".Based on the analyses of existing problems in the comprehensive automation of large pumping stations, detailed researches in regard to comprehensive automation schemes were made in the dissertation. Combining with the practical requirements in the technical innovation of Zaohe Pumping Station, the SR serial protection products introduced from the General Electric Company (GE) of the USA were used for the first time in the technical innovation of large pumping stations in our country, and the SR469 Digital motor management relay and the SR745 Digital transformer management relay made by the company were successfully applied to the automatic control system of Zaohe Pumping Station. The main features and operation conditions of the device were analyzed, and problems encountered in the process of installation and solution measures were detailedly studied. The characteristics of PLC monitoring system and its function as well as the design principle of the system were also introduced in this dissertation. According to the author's experience in engineering practice, it was the first time that the PLC techniques of SYSMAC CQM1 OMRON CPU21 made by Japanese were applied to the automatic control of hydraulic-pressure-controlled sluice gates in large pumping stations, and research results in solving disturbing PLC signal were presented.Combining the technical innovation of monitoring system of Zaohe Pumping Station, the characteristics of the EC2000 monitoring system, integrating protection, measurement, control and communications in large pumping stations, is introduced and its main functions and features were analyzed, and technical innovations in the protection of electric motors and transformers, comprehensive automatic techniques for hydraulic-pressure-controlled sluice gates and monitoring system of Zaohe Pumping Station were also discussed.
