Updating the Jiangdu pumping station is an important item of the first stage of the east route in the South-To-North Water Transfer Project, and reconstruction of the transformer station is one of the main contents.The transformer substation in Jiangdu pumping station is the one specially used by Jiangdu pumping station .It provides electric power for the four large pumping stations, producing area, office area and living area in Jiangdu Water Conservancy Project. It was built in 1961, located between the first pumping station and the second one. Because it was built very early, most of the equipment in the transformer substation is the products made in the 1960s or 1970s. A lot of equipment has limitations for many reasons, such as the standard, material, technology, financial resources at that time. Some equipment has been replaced early or late, but most of them are the products which should be eliminated because they may cause accidents. The transformer substation in Jiangdu Water Conservancy Project should be reconstructed completely because of the limited area, expanding capacities many times and unreasonable arrangement.The paper mainly talks about the contents of two aspects concerning transformation of this transformer substation.The first problem is where the transformer substation should be built. And the second is how to provide electricity for the pumping stations. The author adopts the method of comparative analysis to analyze and calculate the wastage of systems at different addresses where the transformer substation will be built. A suitable address will be determined by combining many factors, such as funds put into the transformation, reliability of the application after the engineering project is built and the convenience of management. The author compares many programs and optimizes the program of electricity supply in two aspects—the investment and the safety. The cable of the main electric motors will be chosen by checking Kilowatt-hour meter and diagram of curves and also by comparing the investment and maintenance with spoilage. Based on the possession rate of total expense and two ways of calculating price, the number of transformers and the capacity of transformers will be decided. At the same time, considering that different programs of electricity supply will affect the motion of the main electric motors and the pumps and so on. The paper combines the transformation of electric equipment with consivancy project and machinery, which expends the traditional reconstruction concept of electric equipment.By further study of the two problems, the author suggests that new transformer substruction should be built between the second and the third pumping station. It will provide electricity for the four pumping stations all use 6kV voltage. And the capacity of three main transformers is 40000kVA, 40000kVA and 25000kVA. The third pumping station is supplied electricity by 6 high voltage cables of YJV22-3×240, and the fourth pumping station is used 10 cables of the same kind.The research method in this paper has important significance for the transformation of the similar kind of transformer substation in large pumping station,water conservancy project and other industries.
