With the fast development of the economy of our country, the promotion of the urbanization process, urban population is increasing constantly, and the ownership of motor vehicle is increasing doubly. The urban traffic problems become the bottleneck restraining the city from developing further. One-way roadway system is a kind of simple and effective traffic management means. It has the advantages of increasing road capacity, raising vehicular speed and reducing traffic accident. Therefore, one-way roadway system has been used extensively to solve the problem of urban traffic congestion problems. Based on the analysis of urban traffic problems in China, the adaptation of one-way roadway at home and abroad is combined; some aspects are studied and analyzed, such as one-way roadway theory, one-way roadway impact, one-way design, and they are concluded as follows:(1) According to the traffic engineering and traffic management & planning theory, one-way roadway theory is summarized in this thesis. The one-way roadway lane utilization effect, its weakness and strengths, the traffic characteristics of one-way roadway are analyzed from the aspects such as the complexity of intersections, the traffic signal effects, the arterial-control effects, the clockwise and anticlockwise one-way rings are discussed. The conclusions regarding as advantages and disadvantages of the one-way roadway are also involved.(2) The situation that some of drivers would change their routes on their trips with longer distance is studied in detail. And the problems of the detour routes and some other detailed are analyzed. This thesis initiates the calculation methods and the solution measures of the one-way roadway detour distance, also applies the principle of bus priority in the one-way roadway in order to reduce the adverse effect produced by it. To make sure that the emergency vehicles such as the first aid, fire fighter and so on can go through, developing traffic facilities and guarantee measures, reducing the adverse effect of commercial activity of the one-way street both sides, as well as enhancing the roadsides utilization of the one-way street at night and so on, these aspects are taken into consideration in the thesis.(3) Design method of the one-way roadway project is proposed. Simultaneously, based on the profound understanding of the advantages and disadvantages and the traffic characteristics of it, the principles of one-way roadway system design have been presented. In the design, techniques on O-D trip matrix inversion estimation and traffic distribution in the traffic analysis theory are applied; the traffic volumes on road links are assigned in the one-way roadway system. On the process, transit lines have some influence on the assigned volume. Some traffic simulation models are proposed. The road networks are simulated before or after one-way roadway plan is implemented. Then one-way roadway plan is synthetically evaluated and analyzed, and the system of the evaluation index is generalized.Finally, taking Changsha as an example, this thesis has proposed the design method of the one-way roadway project, carried on the design of the road, and evaluated traffic results.
