In the last several decades, with the development of the global automobile industry, the yield, sale quantity and retentions quantity of the automobile is increasing year by year, the countries all over the world face the two serious problems-energy safety and environmental protection. The Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is a kind of perfect vehicle that not only can satisfy the request of exhaust and fuel economy, but also has the advantages of electric vehicle (EV) and fuel automobile. The HEV has gained much attention world-widely for its high efficiency and low exhaust. And that the hybrid electric system most suits for the bus, especially the city bus. Therefore, the Hybrid Electric Bus becomes the development hotspot in the automobile field nowadays. This paper based on the traditional bus YTK6605Q using in the city traffic system, and refit it to be YTK6605QHEV, realizing the design object to improve the fuel economy and decrease the emissions. Enclosing this target, it firstly analyzed and compared the drive structure and type of HEV, and made sure the layout pattern of TK6605QHEV drive system. It formulated the performance index for YTK6605QHEV, and completed the components'selecting and parameter matching of its power train. Taking account of the fuel economy of auxiliary power unit (APU), emission performances and the efficiency of battery, the YTK6605QHEV adopts the control strategy that combines thermostat control mode and powers follow control mode. ADVISOR software was used to simulate the designed prototype under certain drive cycle. The simulation result is compared with that from conventional bus prototype, from which it can be concluded that as for the newly designed prototype, the parameter selecting is reasonable and hybrid power is superior. Therefore, this paper guides theoretically the development of series hybrid electric bus.
