At present, China has gradually come into aging society. More and more old people need an aid walk instrument. This article developed a new type of electric wheelchair for old people, which was much more practical and predicted to occupy larger market. Virtual Prototyping based on multi-body dynamics was applied to the design of electric wheelchair. The main works were shown as follows:①The multi-body dynamics model of electric wheelchair by ADAMS was created.②The simulations on electric wheelchair by ADAMS were done about the operations of electric wheelchair, including turning,uphill,accelerating,decelerating and the resistance against overturning.③The ride comfort of electric wheelchair was also simulated by ADAMS, including the test with pulse input and stochastic input.④The DC motor control system, which was novel speed-variable system, was simulated by MATLAB,⑤Co-simulation technology was also used in this article to link the control model created in MATLAB to the mechanical model created in ADAMS. The motion of electric wheelchair was controlled in real time and the result by simulation was more accuracy.All of the works done in this article provide essential parameters required in the design of electric wheelchair and make the good foundation for the work in the future.
