Online automatic product examination is essential to industrialdevelopment, and most of the traditional production examinations arefinished artificially which, with many shortages, is affected greatly by theobjective factors. With the development of automatization of productionand enhanced requirements of products quality and production efficiency,the machine vision online product examination technology, based on thedigital image processing technology, is attracting more and more attention.There are many types of machining face defects of magnetic rings,most of them are not apparent, and manual examination has defects of highcost, low efficiency and examination omitting. Combined with theproduction requirement, it, manual examination replaced by machine visiontechnology, is successful to detect the defects of magnetic rings by machine.The key point is, based on the digital image processing technology,developing the examination system to make it possible to detect themagnetic rings of different types with different defect characteristicssuccessfully. But the results of detecting the rare tiny crack defects are notsatisfactory by this system, the technique of wavelet transformation imagestrengthening is introduced to do some beneficial discussion on this kind ofcrack detecting.A careful analysis is done to the magnetic rings produced by aco-operative corporation, which is followed by the introduction in detail ofimage preprocessing and defect characteristic abstracting technology.According to the characteristic of machine vision technique applied toindustrial products examination and the engineering requirement and operation theory, a narrative in detail of instruments of automatic defectdetecting is presented. Combined with LabVIEW and Vision Builder AIdevelopment tools, the software design and development of automaticdefect detecting magnetic ring system is introduced. At last, sampleanalysis of real products is done with an appraise of the quality of thisexamination system, which verifies the practicability and feasibility of thissystem. It ends with further discussion on detecting of rare tiny crackdefects with wavelet transformation image strengthening technique thatwould be one of the main subjects of next phase of the program.
