Research On The Industrial Design Applying Status And CAD Usage Level In China's Manufacturing Industries

As time went on and the global business strategy altered, time-based competition has become one of the major competitive modes. Thus the first to capture the market, shorten the product development cycle and improve the quality of product has become the important objects of product development in manufacturing industries. The new technologies and theory oriented on these objects have been widely used in China's manufacturing industries. The applying of these technologies and theory has promoted the development of enterprises and made them playing an important part in the global manufacturing industries in the 21st century. As a mean to upgrade product quality and add product value, industrial design has been gradually recognized by Chinese manufacturing industries and applied in the product development. While information technology and design, the combination of which has greatly improved the efficiency of product development To further exploring the status of industry design and the level of CAD application in product development of China's manufacturing industries, the design college of Southern Yangtze University (China) and Innovation Research Institute of Hitotsubashi University (Japan) cooperated and set a task group in the name of "the development of industry design in China's manufacturing industries". We organized a large scale questionnaire investigation in China. The core of the investigation is the status of industry design and the applying status of CAD; the object is present the problems in the product development and reflecting the design capability in China's manufacturing industries.We got many conclusions though the analyse and research of the status of industry design and the applying of CAD. Such as, the setting of industry design department, the understanding degree of industry design, the important factors of product development, the applying status of CAD, master degree of designers in using CAD, and 3D-CAD using in product development in China's manufacturing industries, etc. We also found that the 1990s is the peak period in introducing industrial design and the CAD of China's manufacturing industries, just at the same time. Because of the short time of introduction, the application has many problems in China's manufacturing industries. Such as, a gap of the application level with industry design between enterprises in the North and South China, the imbalance demand of design talent; failing to fully use CAD, too little communication and low level of information sharing between the every part of the process in product development, and etc. In the last of the paper, some valuable measurements aided to solve these problems have been put forward.We believe that in the new century, industrial design and the computer will work closely with Chinese manufacturers to serve new opportunities. The development of China's manufacturing industry will promote industrial design further also.
