| The rigidity means the pressure that can generate unit deformation (includingoffset and angle of rotation etc.) with the property of preventing that process which isintrinsic to the structures. Application of rigidity theory in engineering canmacroscopicly control and qualitatively analyse the structures, to avoid their dangerouselement and make the stress proper. That is the pursuit of structure engineers and alsois the purpose of this paperContents of this paper include the general concept of rigidity theory, simplifyingthe structure, defining the calculation model, the relationship between structureconcepts design and rigidity theory, application of rigidity theory in structure lectotype, methods of improving structure rigidity, application of rigidity in the whole course ofstructure design, effect of rigidity theory embodying by the calculating principle ofstructural members and the relationship between building foundations and rigiditytheory etc.In this paper, the thought and the method of rigidity theory applying inconstructure design is concluded, by studying and discussing the application of rigiditytheory in structure design according to the thought way of constructure engineers basedon the theoretical research and also analyzing the engineering illustration at the sametime.At last, the rigidity control is presented.
