Structural vibration control is a new way for mitigating structural response toearthquake. This new concept means that the dynamic response of the structure isreduced by its auxiliary devices instead of by the structure itself. Based on theextensive review on the study and applications of the TMD in both china and abroad,the theoretical study and simulation analysis are made in this dissertation about thecontrol mechanism and the optimal design method of the TMD and MTMD. Themain work has been done is as follows:On the basis of the optimum design of SDOF-TMD's parameters, the influencesof TMD's mass ratio, the TMD's damping ratio and TMD's frequency on the controlefficiency are investigated.MTMD system is a development of TMD system, Considering the variedcombinations of MTMD for the vibration control of structures, the choose ofMTMD's model and determination of total number of TMD and TMD's optimumlocations are introduced. The optimum design parameters of MTMD for controllingthe torsional vibration of SDOF and MDOF structures are discussed.For the verification of the theoretical analysis results, the finite element modelsfor both single and multi storey structures with MTMD systems are set up, thedynamic responses of the structures under four kinds of seismic waves are simulated,analysis results of displacement and acceleration in time domain and frequencydomain is obtained. The results of the simulation show that MTMD can obviouslyreduce response of torsional vibration of tall building structures induced by seismicactions.
