The City Design Study Of Urban Business District

With the economical development, social improvement and the enlargement of civilization, the importance of city design is more and more obvious. Thanks to China's joining into WTO, business district design, as one of the most important chains of city design, draws lots of attentions for its unique space dimension, identifiability and symbol of history in the stage of global commercialization. The function of its construction and development plays a more and more important role in the economic and social development of city, region, or even the whole nation. Integrating history, culture and commercial activity, it not only offers commercial environment for business, but acts as a cultural sites for communication and entertainment.Commercial Street, as one of the important modern commercial space, is a central site for communication and entertainment more than only a carrier of commercial activity. Colorful city view and business culture are displayed here, and characteristics of the society, economy, culture and environment are gathered here. Its planning and construction has formed an important channel for improving city function and city image. City design in China can be dated back to ancient times, but the modern city design has just come onto the stage. The modern city design theory in China, especially the design of Commercial Street, is comparatively weak, some practicing project has just begun, and the research of design measures which fits to the Chinese feature is just on its way. Thus it requires more exploration and innovation.This paper discusses the elements which influence the development of Commercial Street from different levels within the background of the city design. First, it discusses the connotation and content of city design, the differences between commercial district design and commercial district planning, and the confronting problems in city design from theoretical level as well as propose the idea that city design should maintain vivid regional cultural features and national tradition. Then it claims the major elements which influence the development of commercial district on the basis of commercial district problem analysis. Taking "Heaven on earth cate business walking street" as an example, and with in the frame of "problems raising—problems analyzing—and problems solving", this paper lists some problems in Commercial Street design, and offers some suggestions and proposals purposefully through thorough analysis and conclusion.
