High pressure sodium(HPS) lamps are high-efficient white light sources for commonality and street lighting applications widely, and are particularly prevalent in street lighting applications. HPS lamps, a member of the high intensity discharge (HID) lamp family, need a high start-up voltage and a normal voltage duing its working,so HPS lamps need high-voltage trigger and ballast; now HIDs are generally ignited by the traditional 50Hz electromagnetic ballast that bears limitations like high energy consumption, high material consumption and low power factor, etc. Therefore, researchers and experts world-wide are strenuously working to develop the electronic ballast of HPS lamps.Excellence of the HPS lamps electronic ballast are acknowledged public, however, now HPS lamps are not prevalent in lighting applications for its reliability and acoustic resonances. This Paper firstly analyzed the pop-topic in HIDs: acoustic resonances, providing a lot of approaches for solving acoustic resonances by referring to many correlative articles and experiments;analyzed HPS lamps' demand for electronic ballast in detail, providing the topology of electronic ballast of 250W HPS lamps, and developing high-frequency HID electronic ballast ,who had excellent performance by long-time testing, its electric wave is near to electronic ballast. In the fouth chapter, electric properties modeling simulation which proved to be in consistence with actual utility. This paper discusses at different view of the technologies of HID, its ballast, and its simulation, proposing the solution to its acoustic resonances, completed the sample machine of HID in which no acoustic resonances and abnormity occurred in working one month. This paper has completed analysis in theory, simulation in computer, and demonstration in laboratory.
