As the planning and design for the railway terminals area is a comprehensive and complex subject ,this eassy selects one aspect which focuses on the road-network structure (RNS) of the railway teminals area as the research object. For the first step, this essay makes an intutionistic suvery and analysis of RNS of 69 railway terminals which are domestic and overseas via Google Earthâ—‹R and AutoCADâ—‹R .Through a serises of survey and analysis ,this essay systemically describs the status quo of the domestic and overseas RNS of the railway terminals area, divides this into three typs which are analysed into the diverse characters according to the density and form of road networks. After this, this essay discusses the main diffentiae of RNS in China and foreign counties.Combining these differntiae and survey experience, this essay demostrates the main problems of RNS of railway terminals area in China: the whole road-network denstity is low;the road network gradation is improper; the design of new-built and rebuilt railway terminals fixes on the freeway ramp's functions to a fault, neglect the slip-road;the design which concerns about the influx of the collctor-distributor traffic flows in the railway terminals area into the urban transportation keypoints is not elaborate;the evacuation mode is traditional what caused by the unproperisty of the metro. In order to continue the research that whether the RNS of domestic railway terminal areas are proper, the essay analyses the road-traffic-load in above areas. By analyzing four practical planning cases, this assay demonstrates several factors which influence the road-traffic-load in railway terminal areas; and legitimately so, illustrates the mechanism how these factors(including scale, passage volume and relative location of railway station, surrounding landuse intensity, through traffic, railway types and model split) impact the road-traffic-load.After constructing the concepts of RNS present situations and road-traffic-load situations, the assay estimates whether the two concepts are matching through the analysis of virtual typical road networks. And, by selecting certain indexes, the author serves the primary evaluation of the matching between road network and road-traffic-load, and the surrounding landuse development as well. In sum, according to above analysis, the author attempts to extend to presenting every type RNS in railway terminal areas through this assay.
