In light of the urgent requirements of ship safety monitoring services in China's shipping enterprises, a solution based on B/S (Browser/Server) architecture is proposed in this paper to achieve ship remote monitoring system. The system is based on WebGIS, utilizing J2EE and dynamic web page technologies to enable a timely and accurate manner for publishing ship monitoring information, which provides users with convenient and efficient ship monitoring services. This paper studies the design and the implementation process of B/S architecture ship remote monitoring system, which is elaborated in six chapters:The first chapter is the prolegomenon that four topics are introduced, in terms of paper's topic selection, paper's topic significance, researching status quo and the objectives. In the second chapter, firstly, the concept of ship remote monitoring system is introduced. Secondly, various technologies available to implement B/S architecture ship remote monitoring system are introduced. A brief review on different technologies facilitates the choice of several suitable technologies as the foundation for implementing the proposed system. The third chapter focuses on the system design. Initially, user needs are collected, and then the system functions and the overall framework are designed. In addition, more detailed design and analysis are carried out on both server and client sides.Chapter four focuses on the implementation of server-side. Spatial data processing and implementation of symbolizing Chinese publicing chart tools are discussed, as well as the implementation of business logic tier and data persistence tier of ship monitoring application server. The fifth chapter introduces the implementation of the client side of the B/S architecture Ship Remote Monitoring System, including the implementation of electronic chart navigation tool, ERBL (Electronic Range and Bearing Line) tool and plotting ship monitoring information on web chart. It is proved by the experiment results of B/S architecture ships remote monitoring system that the proposed design and implementation are feasible and accurate.Chapter six comes to the conclusions and suggests the essential work needs to be done in future study.
