As a part of accelerated urbanization, growths of population, economic development and improvement of life level have been imposing more and more urban demand for water resources. However, water is no longer a sort of "inexhaustible" natural resources as a result of the damaging environment caused by increasingly urban expansions. The shortage of water resources, as being a worldwide problem already, has also been posed to China. In truth most of urban water supply does not serve as drinking water, but as washing and flushing water which practically requires very limited water quality. If this can be superseded with reused water, which costs relatively low to be purified, to perform dual water supply, it is expected to be able to utilize the constructed water treatment plants as much as possible and to cut into users' expenditures. This will therefore be the imperative issue to be sorted out by exploiting new water resources and improving water utilization on the basis of the more reasonable usage of water and minimizing water consumption.Large-scale urban infrastructures prevail in the comprehensive exploitation of water due to the centralized water services and relatively less numbers of taps. As a sort of significant water resources, rainfall water has not been exploited effectively yet all along with a great deal of evacuation into urban rivers regrettably. In terms of the comprehensive exploitation of rainfall water, this report is about to discuss and justify the feasibility that the treated rainfall water, as one of water reuse resource types, is recycled to the terminal buildings of Pudong Airport as flushing water for toilets and complementary water for future energy centre by means of experimental analysis. Eventually the conclusions will be employed to engineering practices.Selection of raw water needs to be determined in consideration of its quantity, quality and reliability. The quantity of rainfall is not only a function of season, month, type, duration and intensity, but the distribution varies so much seasonally and spatially. Therefore, with regard to rainfall water, as the raw water resource in this subject, retention and storage should be the first issue to be taken into account. This report will identify Weichang River within the airport as water resource. Thereafter, intakes will be installed on different locations of the river, and then monitoring of water quality for each intake will be implemented. The best intake, proposed influent and effluent water quality and preferred treatment process will be identified eventually by the measures indicated above. Moreover, the further experiments are to be undertaken to make a comparison between FeCl3 and PAC as the coagulants in order to analyse flocculation and treatment performance. The best dosage will be determined subsequently. On the basis of the experimental conclusions, this report will carry out an analysis on engineering application and economic benefits finally in an attempt to provide the following practice with applicable methodology.
