In the beginning of 21st century, with the sound development trend of our country's economy, the domestic output and demand of steel has been increasing. Since the domestic output can not meet the need of growing demand from steel industry, our country began to import iron ore and the import volume every year increased rapidly. Meanwhile, National Development and Reform Commission set forth the Steel Industry Development Policy in 2005 to guide the layout adjustment of steel industry, establishing the new seaside steel base while eliminating the inland high energy-consuming and extra-backward capacity.In the context of steel industry allocation adjustment and the increasing demand of import iron ore transportation, the thesis is to probe into our country's Import Iron Ore Port Network layout.Above all, the thesis analyzes the port network based on the System Theory, pointing out the consistent of port network and the characteristics of port network layout. According to the characteristics of import iron ore transportation system, the thesis introduce the port network layout based on the cargo of import iron ore, particularly pointing out its hierarchy, and puts forward the hierarchical structure consisting of main import port, secondary import port and ordinary import port. Besides, the main factors that have impact on Import Iron Ore Port Network are also introduced. The indicator system specific for Import Iron Ore Port Network is established on the basis of layout main factor. The thesis adopts the method combined with principal component analysis and cluster analysis to have comprehensive evaluation and classification of import iron ore port, in order to make out the functional positioning and hierarchical classification of Import Iron Ore Port Network.In the end, Southwest Import Iron Ore Port Network is adopted as case study. After the comprehensive evaluation and classification, the result is received that import iron ore port network in this region is made up of Zhanjiang Port and Fangcheng Port as main import ports, and Qinzhou Port as secondary import port. The suggestions on the development of Southwest Import Iron Ore Port Network are also given accordingly.
