With rising global competition, more rapid technical change and the need for the faster development of products with higher quality and reliability, it is impossible for any one firm to possess all the technical expertise needed to develop a complex product. This means that companies have to focus on their core competencies and outsource other activities to draw on the best expertise available outside the company. With the help of supplier involvement in product development, the company could reduce development cost and get higher product quality and increase development speed. Thus, the traditional pattern of the large, vertically integrated business could not stay in the market, and is being replaced by one consisting of complex networks of collaborating organizations. It is therefore apparent that in this new structure, design and development not only has to be managed within one large organization, but it also involves managing relationships between many companies in an extensive chain of suppliers。Traditionally, the literatures mainly focus on the benefits gained from supplier involvement in collaborative product development, risk management in collaborative product process and collaborative product development support system. Few research pay attentions to supplier involvement in product development process analysis and lack of a framework to help companies to build the supplier involvement in collaborative product development. The research towards suppliers selection criterions mainly focus on product qualities and cost, but not the abilities in collaborative product innovation.Based on a thorough analysis of the state of art related to supplier involvement in collaborative product development and requirement of the industry demand, this thesis summarized the existed problems. Firstly, this paper propose a framework named supplier involved in collaborative product management framework which associates three hierarchies called business pattern, process pattern and operation pattern to model collaborative product development process. The business pattern analysis the benefits and defects gained from supplier involvement and defined when supplier involve in collaboration; the process pattern deals with the process mapping between suppliers and core company in collaborative product development environment; the operation pattern uses collaborative case analysis and collaborative information exchange analysis to deeply analyze the process pattern. Secondly, the supplier selection framework based on collaborative product innovation was proposed. The supplier criterions are based on the supplier involvement in collaborative product innovation and development, and a Multi-objective Optimization is designed to solve this mathematical problem. Lastly, the supplier collaborative product portfolio management system based on unified modeling language (UML) is created. Through the UML method to build the use case analysis, sequence analysis and class analysis, this study implements the supplier collaborative product portfolio management system which is based on B/S framework. This method has been applied to one company so as to validate the methods proposed in the thesis.
