Reefer container is important for transportation which requires temperature condition. with the development of large-scale container ship, it is inevitable that the reefer container be used in the cargo, therefore the ventilation of cargo with reefer container become an important technology of successful development of large-scale container ship. The main purpose of cargo ventilation is to set up and maintain a suitable environmental temperature for reefer container. The precise calculation of ventilation rate is the crucial premise for design of a good ventilation system. Air distribution in cargo was studied in this paper. The results are as follows:1) An experiment model was established based on the similarity theories, with Archimedes number Ar being utilized as the similarity standard. The similarity scale was determined according to geometry scale 1/u and other limit condition. Then the experiment rig was built according to the similarity scale.2) The distribution of temperature and velocity in the cargo under different ventilation condition (supply condition, suction condition, variable heat condition), and the different influence factor to air distribution was investigated. It can be concluded from the experimental result that the air distribution were different under different supply condition and suction condition.3)AIRPAK, which is a CFD software, was used to simulate the air distribution of cargo with reefer container. The correction of the numerical simulation can be proved by the comparison between simulation result and experimental result. Then it provides the reference for the design of ventilation system.
