As the development of the manufacturing technology, high-precision electro-mechanical equipment is used more and more widely. There is a great need for the fine performance, especially the good anti-vibration properties. At the same time, both experimental and analytical techniques are used to understand the dynamic characteristics of the systems being controlled. Constant deep communication between mechanical and control engineers are required to bring high performance electro-mechanical systems to market. In this paper, the theory of the vibration is introduced firstly, then a simple computer hard disk drive is analyzed as an example showing how to analyze sophisticated electro-mechanical equipment, then another method of ranking modes for elimination is discussed. The following is the work of the paper:First, the basic theory of real and complex mode analysis is introduced, which is very important in the fields of vibration analysis, and then the finite element method and the ANSYS software are discussed.Next, in chapter 3, an ANSYS model of a single stage SISO disk drive actuator / suspension system is built, which illustrates using dc or peak gains of individual modes to rank modes for elimination, and then a low order state space MATLAB model is created.Third, in chapter 4, balanced reduction is introduced, another method of ranking modes for elimination, and using it a reduced model of the SISO disk drive actuator/s- uspension model from Chapter 3 is produced.
