Because the asphalt pavement has characteristics like good driving comfort ,excellent service performance, high speed of construction, convenient to maintain and easy to recovery, it has got a wide application as main structure type of high-grade pavement in domestic and internationally highway construction, but the following problems of structure damage are also more and more. The growing of vehicle flow, aggravation of axle load and speeding up of speed put forward a higher request on the quality of the asphalt pavement. To reduce these diseases of asphalt pavement, and satisfy the comfort, safety and economy of high speed driving, the Road performance of asphalt mixture must be improved, thus improve the service performance of asphalt pavement.Diatomite is a kind of industry mineral with stable performance, have some characteristics such as rough surface, higher hardness, acid and alkali resistant, wear resistance, anti-slide, special microspore structure and active compositions. It can well improve the road performance of asphalt pavement as a modifier, what mainly reflect that diatomite modified asphalt has good stability, adhesiveness,and can improve the high temperature stability and low temperature crack resistance , and improve water stability ,fatigue resistance and anti-aging performance. Compared with common polymer modified asphalt,the diatomite modified asphalt have has better advantage on price, production process and store method. It maybe concluded that the popularization and application of diatomite modified asphalt in whole country will create great social and economic benefit, and greatly improve the quality and service life of pavement and reduce the annual cost of the use of road. So systematically study the mix design, road performance, modification mechanism and construction technology has a significant meaning.Based on the analysis of the function played by diatomite in asphalt mixture, this paper determine the best optimal asphalt content,further determine the mix proportion of the diatomite modified asphalt.At last done the road usage performance experiments and analyzed economic effect of the application on real engineering. The concrete research contents of this paper are as follows:(1)Study the classification and main physical and chemical characters of diatomite, and make a thorough study on the chemical characters and microstructure of the diatomite in the region of Changbai Mountain and choose the type of diatomite used in this paper.(2)Study the characters of asphalt ,aggregate and mineral powder by experiments, and make clear the technical index of simple substance materials.(3)Make a thorough study on theory and calculation method of aggregate gradation , then determine the best optimal asphalt content,furthermore determine the mix proportion of the diatomite modified asphalt.(4)Study on the road performance of diatomite modified asphalt by experiments and economic benefit of the application on real engineering.
